Supersize Me Not

This post will give you some helpful tips on how to control your food portion sizes and inform you of healthy recommendations of portions.

First, let's address the elephant on the plate. In the last few decades, restaraunts have taken it upon themselves to increase our portion sizes sometimes doubling and tripling the caloric value. Even our drink containers and food packaging normally hold 2 or more of the recommended serving size. Living in such a fast paced society, convenience is of high importance to many. Here are some quick and easy to follow tips to help combat oversized portions.

When Eating Out:

Order the lunch version vs dinner as lunch portions are normally smaller
Split your meal with a friend
Request a to-go box and put half of your meal in it before you start eating
Order the small instead of the large
Order a single patty on a burger instead of double or triple
When Eating In:

Put snacks in a separate container or bowl to avoid overeating
Buy snacks in premeasured portions
Make a conscious effort to half your normal serving of condiments
Tips to Try Daily:

Increase intake of low calorie, high fiber fruits and vegetables
Increase water intake
Eat healthy snacks like dried fruit and nuts in between meals
Store excess food out of sight to discourage eating out of boredom
